Safe At Your Plate Weight Loss
One of my first coaching sessions today was so special it
inspired me to share it… My clients
name is Arnie; he is 72 years old and still enjoys being a baseball
umpire… We all know the two most
important calls an umpire makes during a baseball game is safe or out…
Well in the game of life, Arnie had called himself “out” of
shape, and soon would be “out” of doing what he most loves umpiring… He heard about the Fat Loss Coach program
from baseball coach who successfully completed the program…
Arnie started the program at 225 lbs and his body fat
percentage was 41percent; which meant he was now carrying 92 lbs of fat… We started working together in the fall of
2012, and one of our major goals was to get him ready for the baseball season
of 2013…
I still remember the look on his face when I said we would
reduce his body fat by 50 percent… At
my age, “he replied”… I smiled and
said, “age has little to do with it”…
Umpires played an important part of my life as a young man… As a gifted baseball pitcher I thought my
professional life would be frustrating batters away from home plate with
blazing fastballs and knee jerking curves…
As a pitcher an umpire judged my fate…
Well life has its own curves and for decades I have spent my days
helping frustrated dieters back to their diner plates…
Now Arnie was the player and I the nutrition umpire… Instead of balls and strikes, I was calling
out his protein, carbohydrate and fat…
This game would be much longer than nine innings and if he let go of bad
habits; he could hold on to youthful health…
Arnie was surprised I was saying, “it is safe to eat foods”,
he called, “out” of his daily routine when following diets… Foods like whole-grain breads, whole-wheat
pasta and whole-grain cereal… Foods he thought were the problem, were now the
solution; to losing fat and keeping it off…
So why was our meeting today so special? Arnie had lost 48 lbs of fat; the 50 percent
loss I had promised; but had also gained 12 lbs of muscle… Gaining 12 lbs of muscle at 72 years
old… How many out there have called
themselves “out” of the game of being at their ideal weight and health? Too many…
